Coaching Education and Certification
The Goodman Speed curriculum is the ideal continuing education programme for coaches and strength and conditioning specialists. Courses can be taken consecutive to or concurrently with university and/or sport association studies to enhance basic knowledge with information, drills, and training strategies for increasing cognitive, technical and athletic speed.
At every level of play, speed is what separates champions from everyone else. Though obvious when it comes to racing, the same is true for all team, combat, and racquet sports. Become a better coach through Goodman Speed and give your players their best shot at success!
Knowledge gleaned from over two decades of success is distilled into manageable chunks for sport coaches, strength & conditioning coaches, scouts, researchers, and rehabilitation professionals. The curriculum is a combination of lecture and practical sessions for improving cognitive, technical and athletic speed in team, combat and racquet sports.
The Curriculum
Goodman Speed takes a practical-scientific approach to training and teaching. This combines the best of both worlds, while acknowledging their individual shortcomings.
The Introductory Course uses scientific data and real-world examples to outline the importance of speed in combat, team, and racquet sports. The interactions between speed and other traits such as agility, endurance, and strength are also presented. Along the way, many of the persistent misconceptions surrounding speed training are clarified, so that attendees can avoid doing things that are slowing their players down, and begin their journey to enhancing cognitive, technical and athletic speeds
The Foundation Course presents key strategies for improving all three speed domains (cognitive, technical, athletic). Fundamental drills are taught to achieve immediate speed improvements while simultaneously developing the necessary base for the advanced training methods presented in the Specialty courses. A combination of practical and theoretical sessions are used so that participants not only learn what to do, they also understand why and how to do them effectively.
After completion of the Foundation course, students can select the combination of Specialty Streams (Cognitive, Technical, and Athletic) most relevant to their career and interests. Because Athletic Speed is so complex, it is subdivided into two courses: running, stopping, cutting & jumping, and; throwing, swinging, striking & kicking. The Technical Speed specialty course is available in a variety of sport-specific offerings. Each intensive course is a thorough examination of the topic covering theory as well as extensive practical work.
The Integration Course teaches how to plan and execute the long-term development of cognitive, technical, and athletic speeds by combining the techniques learned in all of the specialty streams. Scheduling, periodization & progression; testing, monitoring & dealing with outliers; talent identification & training needs analyses are just a few of the topics that are covered.
